Training, Training and Fund Raising

2016 Rider Training Ride 16 of the Bike for Backpacks 2016 riding crew were able to get together on Saturday, August 20th for an awesome ride up Deer Creek Canyon.  Mike Matoush, Cyrus Irani, Michael Turra, Virgil Seibold, Chris McClain and myself, Michael McAllister. Thank you Cyrus for charting the course and direction for the ride and Chris for your gazelle like speed, you set the pace for sure.  This was the first opportunity for us to get together and were able to snap one quick photo of the crew…this was at the tail end of the ride so most of us looked a little worn out!  A few of us were joined by the beautiful Lauren and Reese Turra for lunch and a frosty beer post ride – thank you ladies for joining us.

It was on this ride that I realized that nearly 50% of the riders this year will be in the form of some kind of Mike or Michael so when you are cheering us on, if you just holler “Go Mike” or “Go Michael”, you’ll be sure to be encouraging at least one of us!

Everyone went their own direction this last Saturday with Chris riding Berthoud Pass, Michael (me), Virgil and Jeff Young (not pictured here…he rides too fast) riding the Cherry Creek Trail, around the reservoir and dodging humans, canines and other forms of life.  Mike Matoush hit the trails from his home in Castle Pines and Cyrus was off riding with another buddy of his, I’m sure tearing it up.   From the Map My Ride app., the incredible Terri Blattenbauer posted some impressive miles as well…since you are in Minnesota, I sure hope you doing so with one nostril plugged? 🙂

Fundraising efforts fired up this last week with donations coming in from several of our fans, friends and family – thank you all very much!  The power of $4 to feed a child and their family over the weekend is really amazing and powerful.  We have BIG goals this year, $50,000 collected, enough to feed more than 12,000 kids.  Let’s go get it!

For those of you in Colorado, get your tickets to the end of ride event, it’s going to be fun!
